Time to do the Kingdom Hearts 30 Day Challenge! In other words, I want to write a little about Kingdom Hearts for the next month without feeling bogged down by lengthy blog posts. =)
Day 01 – Favorite Kingdom Hearts game
This one is a really difficult question for me. I think I have to be the person who says the original is my favorite game. At least, at this current moment, the original is my favorite.
I love Birth By Sleep. It had my favorite gameplay and enjoyable characters and interesting plot. But the fact is, I wouldn’t have had the same experiences unless I had played the original game first. As much as they might have tried to make it at least partially a stand-alone game, it really doesn’t stand alone.
Chain of Memories was an… interesting experience. God, beating the game as Riku had to be the most infuriating thing I’ve ever had to do in a video game. Prebuilt decks are the devil. >_< But, the satisfaction of beating Xehanort’s Heartless at the end made the entire game soo worth the card game. I didn’t like the card layout of the game, but I’m glad they experimented with different game styles. Just imagine if they had made KH2 a card-game instead of a between game that isn’t mandatory. That would have been horrible!
358/2 Days… I remember when I went into my local Gamestop to buy 358/2, and the games associate was a Sora cosplayer from the original game. She highly recommended for me not to buy the game. “Unless you are a slash fangirl, the game is pointless,” this girl told me. I ended up buying it at a different outlet because of her. And I really enjoyed it.
Let me tell anyone this. 358/2 Days is not a pointless Kingdom Hearts game. There are no pointless games in the series. Each one expands on one another and in order to fully understand the series, you need to play each game and/or read TvTropes. And 358/2 has a legitimate plot. Xion, even though she is only in this one game, has more plot importance on this whole series than Leon and Cloud do, but if you dared try to remove those characters the fangirls would revolt.
And lastly, Kingdom Hearts 2. I feel like this will probably be my favorite game after I replay the series again. but I played through the entire game in the span of four days. I’m afraid I don’t really remember the intricacies of the game that well. I remember loving the forms as soon as I figured out how they worked (sadly, that took until about when I was in the final world). I loved the synthesis a lot more than in the original game.
The thing is, the original game entranced me. I remember by the time I hit Aladdin’s world, I was completely hooked on the game. It fascinated me in a way no other game has been able to do. Part of this is the fact that I’m a Disney fan, part of it the fact that I love characters like Sora and Riku. But without the original, there wouldn’t be any of the sequels, and thus I love the original Kingdom Hearts game the most
